Warcraft III: WC3L Finalists To Play in Season Two

Friday, April 29, 2005
Competitive Warcraft III gaming doesn't just take place on Battle.net; it also occurs in off-line events and tournaments. Today, we're pleased to announce a cooperative effort with one of the top independent Warcraft III leagues, the WC3L.

The 32nd seed in each gateway's solo competition in the upcoming Season Two tournament will consist of players nominated by each of the top two teams at the upcoming WC3L finals in Cologne, Germany. Each gateway will have one such entry.

We feel this will be an exciting way to broaden the competition by mixing the top Battle.net Warcraft III gamers with those who compete primarily at LAN competitions.

New Warcraft III Minimap - Shrine of the Ancients

Friday, April 29, 2005
There once existed a shrine to the ancient gods of yore, but all that remains is a ruin of rubble, sand, and ore. Though legends persist of creatures from the sea, that have surfaced to guard the treasures of an era long before.

Ladder Season Winding Down

Thursday, April 28, 2005
Only a few days remain to earn positions in the Season Two championship tournament!

We're also pleased to share an important announcement about the tournament prize pool. While the total cash and prize pool of over $25,000 is one of the world's largest for an online-only tournament event, we've been keeping one item secret to help motivate players in these waning days of the ladder season competition.

At the expense of Blizzard's tournament team, the grand champion solo player and 2v2 team will also receive a box of delicious cookies to go along with their big checks and cutting-edge computer hardware. Our researchers believe this may also be the world's first opportunity to win cookies by playing an online game, which will certainly add to the prestige enjoyed by the Battle.net champions.

Warcraft III Accounts Closed

Wednesday, April 6, 2005
A number of additional accounts and CD keys have been tied to the use of a hack or cheat program while playing Warcraft III on Battle.net. In keeping with our aggressive stance against cheating, we have permanently closed 5,900 Warcraft III accounts. 2,300 of the Warcraft III CD keys used with the now-closed accounts have been banned from ladder play for one month, and 500 more have been banned from ladder play permanently. Repeat offenders risk having their CD keys disabled, which will result in the permanent removal of their copies of Warcraft III from Battle.net. We will continue to monitor Battle.net for cheating and take action as needed. If you would like to report additional instances of hacking or cheating, please notify us at hacks@blizzard.com. A false report filed by one player against another will not result in the actions described above.

As always, thank you for your continued support; with your help we have been able to keep Battle.net a fun and safe place to play Blizzard games.

New World of Warcraft Player vs. Player Combat Improvements

Friday, April 1, 2005
You've all seen the sneak-peek articles of the upcoming Player vs. Player Battlegrounds system in our recent web previews. We're now taking Battlegrounds in an entirely new direction. Many players noted that the Battlegrounds resemble some aspects of Warcraft 3. Then it hit us; Why reinvent the wheel? Why waste resources on a project we've already developed and perfected?

The completely redesigned (and yet still very familiar) Battlegrounds system will allow us to better focus our efforts on creating game features that players really want, such as ordering various types of food in-game! You can see a preview of some upcoming intense Battleground PvP combat™ here.

We will continue to refine the implementation of this system over the coming year(s). You can view initial test gameplay screenshots of the Player vs. Player combat system below:
