World of Warcraft Update: THE NIGHT ELVES ARE IN! Wednesday, April 30, 2003 |
 | |
It’s official: Blizzard Entertainment is proud to announce that the Night Elves are now a playable race in World of Warcraft,
our upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game. See them for yourself in these
exclusive screenshots, which
include glimpses of their architecture and lands. For a thorough first look at this colorful race, check out the current
issue of GMR magazine, which goes on sale in early May.
Also on sale in May, the latest issue of Computer Gaming World will preview some of the features that we’ll be
showing in greater detail at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (May 14-16), including trade skills, transportation,
and the all-new Warlock character class.
We will be updating our World of Warcraft Web site with information about the Night Elves and more soon, so check
back often. And, for those curious about when the World of Warcraft beta test will start, we’ve recently added an
item to our F.A.Q. about this.

Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne Beta Accounts Closed, Beta CD Keys Banned Wednesday, April 16, 2003 |
 | |
We have identified a small number of accounts and CD keys with which a hack or cheat program has been used while playing the beta of Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne on Battle.net. In keeping with our aggressive stance against hacks and cheats, the following actions have been taken:
- The identified beta accounts have been permanently closed.
- The beta CD keys and Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos CD keys associated with these accounts have been permanently banned from the beta realms (if two players shared a beta CD key and one cheated, both players were effectively banned).
- Any additional CD keys that had been used to access Battle.net along with the banned keys mentioned above have also been banned from the beta realms. For instance, if the beta was installed with two different copies of Reign of Chaos, the beta CD key and the CD keys for BOTH copies of Reign of Chaos have been banned.
Running the Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne beta test allows us to fine-tune the game experience; cheating during the test can severely hinder our efforts. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter. If you would like to report additional instances of hacking or cheating, please contact us at hacks@blizzard.com. Thank you again for your continued support.

Update: Clarification on Battle.net Hack Programs Statement Thursday, April 3, 2003 |
 | |
In response to Tuesday’s notice about downloading and using hacks, some of our customers have written in with concerns
about being banned from Battle.net for using certain "non-cheating" third-party programs. In order to clarify our
statement and hopefully address these concerns, please read the following post.

Happy April Fools' Day from Blizzard Entertainment Tuesday, April 1, 2003 |
 | |
As many of you have already guessed, we have not changed your hard-earned Warcraft III Battle.net icons into
Lost Vikings permanently. The change is only temporary;
the icons will revert back to their normal appearance around 12:00 AM PST on April 2nd. For those of you who haven't had a
chance to see the new icons in action, fire up your copy of Warcraft III and log on to Battle.net. We hope you've enjoyed this
little diversion; happy April Fools' Day!

Warning about Battle.net Hack Programs Tuesday, April 1, 2003 |
 | |
Blizzard Entertainment considers any third-party program designed to affect the way that a Blizzard game interacts with
Battle.net -- including seemingly harmless programs designed to make doing things easier, such as changing hotkeys -- a hack program.
In addition to jeopardizing the user’s continued access to Battle.net, many of these hack programs contain "Trojan" code that
subjects the user’s account or CD key to the risk of being banned from Battle.net for reasons they might not even be aware of.
Please click here for more details.

Warcraft III and Diablo II Accounts Closed, CD Keys Banned Tuesday, April 1, 2003 |
 | |
UPDATE: THIS IS NOT AN APRIL FOOLS’ JOKE
Numerous additional accounts and CD keys were tied to the use of a hack or cheat program while playing Warcraft III or Diablo II on
Battle.net. In keeping with our aggressive stance against hacks and cheats, we have permanently closed over 12,000 Warcraft III
accounts and over 131,000 Diablo II accounts. We have also banned over 7,000 CD keys from ladder play for one month and banned
over 1,000 Warcraft III CD keys from ladder play permanently. Please note that repeat offenders risk having their CD keys disabled,
which results in permanent removal from Battle.net for their copies of Warcraft III or Diablo II.
We continue to monitor the Warcraft III and Diablo II realms for malicious players. We regret having to employ these extreme
measures; however, certain unscrupulous players have impaired the game play of the Warcraft III and Diablo II communities as
a whole, and severe action continues to be warranted and required. We would also like to reassure everyone that a false report
filed by one player against another will not result in the actions described above.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter. If you would like to report additional instances of hacking or
cheating, please contact us at hacks@blizzard.com. Thank you again for your continued support.
